US boutique strengthens small-cap ranks with new hire

US boutique strengthens small-cap ranks with new hire

Granahan Investments has further strengthened its fund manager line-up with the second new appointment in three months, the US-based boutique has announced.

David Dineen joins from New York-based Pinnacle Associates, where he had been a senior portfolio manager covering global and international equities.

He brings with him 25 years of market experience, which includes a 15 year stint at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Here he served first as a product specialist and equity analyst before becoming a fund manager and team leader.

In his new capacity with the Boston-based group, Dineen will oversee a newly-launched fund, the GIM International Small Cap strategy. This is available through separate accounts and a commingled LP.

This fund will invest in stocks of EAFE-based countries, with 20% exposure to emerging markets. He will hold around 65 stocks across a range of small-cap growth stocks.

Dineen will leverage the broader research of Granahan IM’s nine experienced small-cap equity specialists, which includes Citywire A-rated Gary C Hatton and veteran investor Jane White.

Commenting on the appointment, White said: ‘David is a gifted investor. As with all our team members, he has an extensive fundamental, bottom up research background, which is the underpinning of strong long-term performance in this inefficient area of the market.’

The addition of Dineen comes shortly after Granahan IM hired Jeffrey Harrison from Wells Capital Management. Harrison was hired in July as a generalist fund manager overseeing small- and mid-cap equity growth strategies.

Granahan Investment Management was founded in 1985 and currently has $3.2 billion in assets under management.
