The huge response to the very first Citywire Selector Service study shows just how important asset managers’ levels of service are to our readers.
More than 270 of Europe’s leading fund selectors completed our detailed questionnaire covering all aspects of the support and service that asset managers provide to professional buyers.
With those respondents personally responsible for an average of €1.7 billion in assets, that adds up to a whopping €460 billion in combined buying power.
The study asked fund selectors to rate Europe’s leading asset managers across a wide range of criteria, from the level of salesperson product knowledge to the accessibility of fund managers; from the speed of information delivery and the quality of factsheets to communication in a crisis.
Our readers replied not just with hard facts, they also added a wealth of valuable commentary on the groups they work with – 1,106 comments in total.
These frank and sometimes brutal comments will give asset management companies pause for thought. Who would want to be the provider described like this: "Poor client service. Probably they have too many clients and they cannot cope at all." Or the firm whose attitude to clients was summarised as “just sales aggression, not much care on services".
On the other hand, the asset managers who earned the comments “a benchmark in the industry”, or the description “have client contact, information down to a fine art!” are clearly getting it right with this audience.
Based on the quantitative findings, on Wednesday 12 July we’ll be handing out the very first Citywire Selector Service Awards to the asset managers who are setting the pace in this crucial area. All the fund selectors who took part will get a report summarising the key findings.
A full list of winners will be published on our website after the ceremony.
