Fund coverage in all European universes has been expanded to include 30 more sectors, taking the total number of sectors to 92 for the ratings analysis.
And, as a result of this 27 new managers have entered the Spanish ratings this month.
Making huge strides this month is Fidelity’s Asian equity manager Dale Nicholls. Nicholls is the lead manager on the Fidelity Funds Pacific fund, which is listed in the newly covered Equity Asia Pacific sector.
This fund has returned 122% in the last three years, which is almost 50% more than the return of the MSCI Asia Pacific Index, which has risen 74%.
Nicholls’ performance can be largely attributed to his large bet on technology. Almost one quarter of the fund is allocated to tech stocks, with ORIX, Samsung Electronics and Sony all featuring in his top 10 positions.
Staying with equities, Morgan Stanley duo Cristina Piedrahita and Gaite Ali have been awarded A ratings this month. The duo co-manages the Morgan Stanley Latin American Equity fund and they mainly invest in large stocks throughout the region with their main focus on growth.
Moving into bonds, we see a first rating for Hong Kong bond manger Chow Yang Ang from Schroders, who is among the top entrants in the sector.
He is the lead manager on the Schroder ISF Hong Kong Dollar Bond fund, which is housed in the newly added Bond HKD sector. Ang is now A rated in Spain.
Kawakami’s rating comes of the back of solid performance on the Amundi Fds Equity Japan Value fund.
JP Morgan top the group stakes with 18 rated managers, T Rowe Price follow just behind with 16 rated managers and BlackRock lies third with 14 rated managers.
In total we have awarded 316 ratings to those managers who manage funds that are registered for sale in Spain, with 53 AAA, 75 AA and 188 A ratings issued.
We are now tracking 2,118 managers running 2,586 funds, of which 1,474 have the necessary performance history required to be eligible for a rating.
