Man GLG has hired a new portfolio manager to assist Citywire A-rated Moni Sternbach on the Man GLG European Mid-Cap Equity fund.

Louise Pugh will report directly to Sternbach, who heads up the strategy and the European Mid-Cap Equities unit at the firm.

Pugh joined Man GLG in 2015 as an analyst, prior to this she spent five years at Newton Investment Management covering thematic and value oriented stock picking.

Man GLG has also strengthened the team with the hire of a new analyst, Brentley Campbell.

Commenting on the new hires, Sternbach said: ‘As we look forward to 2018 and the adoption of MiFID II, we expect an overall reduction in research payments and analyst coverage to increase the inefficiencies in the European mid-cap equity market segment and thus the potential opportunities to generate alpha.’

Over the one year to the end of December 2017, the Man GLG European Mid-Cap Equity fund returned 4.9% in euro terms. This is while the average manager in the long/short equity sector returned 4.7% over the same time period.
