ECM Asset Management’s Jon Mawby has opted to join Man Group’s investment management arm GLG Partners as a member of its global credit and convertibles team.
Mawby had been lead credit portfolio manager at ECM and served as co-manager on two European bond funds alongside Euro Stars AA-rated manager Jens Vanbrabant. These were the European Credit Fund SICAV II - European Corporate bond fund and the hsFP Anleihen Euro aktiv UI.
This marks the second major hire by GLG since the start of September after having added former PIMCO bond manager Sudesh Mariappa to the absolute return fixed income team.
In his new role at GLG, Mawby has been handed two UK-domiciled bond funds – the GLG Corporate Bond and GLG Strategic Bond funds. He will report to the firm’s head of credit Steve Roth.
Commenting on his appointment, Mawby said: 'GLG’s credit team has an outstanding reputation. I’m looking forward to working with them and building on what they have already achieved in terms of the strong performance since launch last year of the Strategic Bond fund and the longer track record of the Global Corporate Bond fund.'
Prior to joining ECM in 2005, Mawby had worked for Gartmore Investment Management where he had been a portfolio manager and fixed income trader within its institutional credit group.
Last month ECM’s Derek Hynes had laid bare the firm’s fixed income approach, which had seen Hynes, Vanbrabant and Euro Stars AA-rated manager Henrietta Pacquement emerge as the top performing fund managers over the past three years.
