The former head of fund manager research at SYZ Asset Management has returned to the industry in a portfolio manager role.
Michaël Malquarti has joined boutique group Quaero Capital as a senior portfolio manager, the Geneva-based company announced on May 16.
Malquarti stepped down from SYZ AM in May of last year, where he worked as head of manager research and alternative investments.
Malquarti was appointed to the role after SYZ combined its alternative and long-only strategies into one unit but stepped down after six months. His role was taken on by Cedric Vuignier.
During his tenure with SYZ AM, Malquarti had also worked as a manager on the OYSTER Multi-Strategy Ucits Alternative fund.
In his new capacity, Malquarti will manage the long/short European equity fund and work alongside Cristofer Gelli in the management of asset allocation strategies.
Commenting on the appointment, Jean Keller, the CEO of Quaero, said: 'Michaël has a keen intellect and strong human qualities which I have appreciated for a long time.
'His experience in alternative investment and in the building of multi-asset portfolios will be a strong asset for our fund management team.'
