Citywire Ratings: all-stars blazing a trail in the Americas

Citywire Global runs down the newly-rated fund manager talent with funds registered for sale in the Americas.

Market snapshot

The Americas region currently covered by Citywire ratings consists of two countries, Chile and Peru. Both of which are growing fast and whose economic indexes are performing at pretty similar levels.

In total, 124 managers received a rating within the region this month, which is comprised of 30 AAA, 39 AA and 107 A ratings.

We currently track 934 managers running 1,244 funds of which 658 have the necessary track record to warrant inclusion in our ratings.

Comeback star: Matthew Vaight, M&G

Returning to the ratings is M&G’s Matthew Vaight, who has been awarded a Citywire A-rating for his three year, risk-adjusted performance in his fund M&G Asian fund.

Vaight has beaten the market with a return of 21.54% compared to the fund’s Citywire benchmark, the FTSE AW Asia Pacific ex Japan TR, which rose 17.75% over the same period in Chilean pesos.

The largest holdings within the fund are Samsung Electronics Co, Taiwan Semiconductor Co, and HSCB HLDGS, companies within sectors (financial and information technology) which are growing fast in Asia-Pacific region.

Rising Star: Daniel Hemmant, BNP Paribas

Among the managers to have increased their ratings in the Americas, one stand out performer is Daniel Hemmant of BNP Paribas, who is now AAA-rated. Hemmant is responsible for the BNP Paribas L1 Equity Europe Growth Classic Cap fund which is registered for sale in Chile.

The 36 months risk-adjusted performance for this fund was 15.8%, while its Citywire index, FTSE World Europe TR EUR, rose 5.2%.

Highest overall: Bruno Paulson, Morgan Stanley IM

The highest entrant for both countries covered within the Americas region is Bruno Paulson, who has received his first Citywire rating. He is an A-rated manager and has a manager ratio above 0.35 in both countries.

Paulson manages different share classes for the fund Morgan Stanley Global Brands, in particular for Peru, where he got the highest manager rating for his 3 year risk-adjusted performance. He has outperformed the MSCI World TR USD index by 11.22 percentage points.
