Thematic funds can act as a great tool for investors looking to invest in something they are passionate about as well as gain returns. Whether its thematic equity, robotics or industrials, there is something for everyone.
In this edition of 'Selector Snapshot', one investment professional highlights his favourite thematic bets.
Selector: Chris Van Den Ameele (CIO)

Investors always have their own interests and preferences, my personal preference is water. I love the whole water industry, fresh water is scarce and its only 3% of the total water quantity we have on earth.
I think consumption, transportation and purification of water are important and, because of this, I have been a tremendous supporter of the Pictet Water fund since it first launched.
I also like the Credit Suisse Security fund, as I like to play themes like this rather than geographical or sector plays. The Credit Suisse Security fund is of interest for us because when we look at the world there are a lot of issues surrounding security issues.
It’s not just terrorism, as there are problems with food testing, and there was recently an egg scare in the Netherlands. There is also IT testing. At the moment many people are afraid that computers are being hacked and can be accessed by people who are not validated to do so.
All of these themes are quite interesting. I love the thematic approach, and I am able to incorporate this as well as making sure my sectoral approach is still properly upheld.
