BlackRock has strengthened its emerging market debt team with the appointment of HSBC’s former global head of emerging markets research, the US asset manager has announced.
Pablo Goldberg joins BlackRock as a managing director, portfolio manager and senior strategist.
He will be based in New York and report to Sergio Trigo Paz, who is head of emerging market debt at the US firm.
In his new role, Goldberg will help drive EMD research, oversee investment strategy ideas and also serve as a member of the firm’s investment committee.
His primary role will be to work within the US-based operations of BlackRock and expand the company’s presence in this market.
Prior to joining BlackRock, Goldberg worked for HSBC as global head of emerging markets research and held a similar role at Merrill Lynch & Co. During his eight years with Merrill Lynch & Co., he had also worked as chief economist for Latin America.
Commenting on the appointment, a spokesperson said: ‘Pablo’s joining continues to demonstrate BlackRock’s commitment to growing and investing in our emerging markets business.
‘His extensive experience and deep market knowledge will strengthen and complement both my team and the broader emerging market investor group within BlackRock.’
The appointment of Goldberg marks the latest addition to the team under Sergio Trigo Paz. Former Lombard Odier fund manager Michal Wozniak was added to the company’s London-based unit at the end of 2013.
