Berenberg Asset Management has introduced a new emerging market debt strategy, Citywire Selector can reveal.
The Berenberg Sustainable EM Bonds fund is managed by Frederic Waterstraat, the portfolio manager in the emerging market bond team based in Hamburg.
Waterstraat joined the firm in 2008 as portfolio manager. Prior to this he worked as consultant analyst at Steria Mummert Consulting in Munich and performed ABS structuring at HSH Nordbank.
The new strategy combines the EM bond expertise of the firm's quant team with sustainability screening.
Berenberg defines sustainability based on 40 different ESG markers. The aim of the fund is to achieve outperformance based on systematic country allocation and bond selection.
Currently the strategy has an institutional class only, however a retail class will be introduced shortly.
