Former Charlemagne Capital fund manager Akhilesh Baveja has resurfaced at emerging markets investment bank, Arqaam Capital.

Baveja left Charlemagne Capital in December 2017, where he had managed the €30 million Magna Mena fund.

During his tenure, Baveja was consistently showcased as one of the best-performing managers in the specialist MENA equity sector.

In his new role at the Dubai-based firm, Baveja will be the lead portfolio manager in its public securities asset management division, with responsibility for all equity strategies. This will include the firm’s flagship Arqaam MENA Value fund.

Commenting on the appointment of Baveja, Arqaam Capital’s GCC President, Tarek Lofty said: ‘Baveja’s outstanding stock picking ability, particularly in the challenging environment of the past few years, is a testament to his detailed understanding of the region and his ability to successfully navigate regional volatility and consistently produce market leading returns.’

Arqaam Capital was established in 2007 and operates out of three hubs across the Dubai International Financial Centre, Cairo, and Johannesburg.

The firm also provides in-depth research on more than 280 listed Middle East and Africa companies across 26 countries and 15 sectors.
