Citywire AA-rated Pablo Cano has quit Bankinter to set up an asset management boutique, Citywire Selector understands.
Cano is set establish his new professional project with help from Valencia-based Grupo Zriser, which was formed by Ana and Pablo Serratosa Lujan in 2007.
It is understood that Cano's boutique will look to develop new European equity strategies following a value investment style. He will be assisted by Grupo Zriser members Pilar Lloret and Emilio Garcia.
The 15-year market veteran began his career at Aviva, where he served as head of equity before joining Bankinter in 2013. There he oversaw the Bankinter Dividendo Europa fund, among others.
Cano has not yet named his new venture and it is understood that he could receive more backing from other external investors beyond Grupo Zriser.
On a three-year total return basis to the end of August 2017, Cano sits sixth out of 62 managers operating in the European equity income sector for his collective performance. He has returned 29.3% in euro terms against an average manager return of 15.2%.
